Hedwig Ritter is an Austrian soprano who recently made her Strauss debut as Ariadne, followed by the Marschallin in Der Rosenkavalier.
In November 2025, she won the First International Bogdan Paprocki Singing Competition in Poland.
In the 2025/26 season she is performing the roles of Ariadne in Ariadne auf Naxos at the Krakow Opera, as well as Marschallin in Der Rosenkavalier, Rosalinde in Die Fledermaus, Micaëla in Carmen, Erste Dame in Die Zauberflöte and Giulietta in Les contes d’Hoffmann at the Volksoper, being an ensemble member since the 2022/23 season.

In spring 2025, she rejoined the Toyota Master Players – an orchestra comprising members of the Vienna Philharmonic and the Vienna Symphony – as a soloist on their Japan tours, following a highly successful debut in 2023. In 2025, she also made her debut at the Konzerthaus Wien at a gala concert featuring arias from operettas.
Before joining the Volksoper she was a member of the opera studio in Linz, Austria. Past engagements include Queen of the Night in Mainfrankentheater Würzburg and the world premiere of Der Besucher in the Theater Bielefeld, Germany.
As a child she studied trumpet at the Kunstuni Graz. After high school she studied voice at the MUK Wien and at the HfMT Köln. Currently she is coached by Lucja Zarzycka.

Dramatically, it worked that Hedwig Ritter’s fresh-voiced Marschallin, with a similarly warm and soft timbre, scarcely seemed older. Ritter’s portrayal showed a precociousness akin to that displayed by the young Marschallin herself. For this character alone, drawn so close to life, Rosenkavalier is worth seeing again and again.”
Die Presse
Vocally sovereign, Hedwig Ritter embodied the wise and warm-hearted Marschallin—the central star of the work, whose mild glow warms everything around it.”
