Daniele Callegari was Principal Conductor of the Orchestre Philharmonique de Nice at the Opéra Nice Côte d’Azur from 2021 to 2023. From 1998 to 2001 he was Principal Conductor at the Wexford Opera Festival and from 2002 to 2008 he was Music Director of the DeFilharmonie (Royal Flanders Philharmonic Orchestra) in Antwerp.
In 2022 he was appointed Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by French Republic. Born in Milan, he graduated from the city’s Conservatory in double bass and percussion. At just 22, he joined the Teatro alla Scala Orchestra, where he had the opportunity to play with some of the world’s most renowned conductors.
This stimulating encounter with such renowned names brought him back to the Conservatory to study conducting and composition.

He is regularly invited by the major theatres and the most prestigious concert halls in the world, where he has conducted many important productions, including Nabucco, La traviata, Il trovatore and La Gioconda at Metropolitan Opera in New York, Orlenskaya Deva at Carnegie Hall in New York, Turandot at Teatro alla Scala, Il trovatore, Rigoletto e Madama Butterfly at Opéra National de Paris, Maria Stuarda at Théâtre des Champs-Elysées de Paris, Norma, La Gioconda, Aida, Poliuto (only to name a few) at Liceu de Barcelona, L’elisir d’amore and La traviata at Staatsoper in Berlin, L’elisir d’amore at Wiener Staatsoper; Tosca, La bohéme, Un ballo in maschera and Rigoletto (to name a few) at Bayerische Staatsoper, Don Giovanni, Falstaff and Aida at San Diego Opera, I masnadieri, Tosca, Otello, Attila and Ernani all’Opéra de Monte-Carlo; Ariane et Barbe-Bleue all’Opéra du Rhin de Strasbourg, Don Pasquale at NCPA Beijing, Falstaff at Opéra de Montréal, Cavalleria rusticana and I pagliacci at San Francisco.

His discography includes numerous important recordings, including La traviata, Il trovatore and Oberto, Conte di San Bonifacio (Fonè). He recorded La Gioconda, I quattro rusteghi, la Messa di gloria by Mascagni, Alice di Testoni, Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater , Flotow’s Alessandro Stradella. In DVD: Gioconda, Macbeth, Elisir d’amore e Madama Butterfly. With DeFilharmonie he recorded Ravel, Debussy, Brewaeys and Joris. He conducted the
Orchestra Sinfonica Giuseppe Verdi di Milano for Rolando Villazón’s CD Cielo e Mar (Deutsche Grammophon). Recent engagements: Iris di Mascagni (concert) at Teatro Real di Madrid; Cavalleria Rusticana e Pagliacci at Bayerische Staatsoper; Rigoletto at Metropolitan in New York and at Teatro La Fenice ; Il trovatore at Metropolitan in New York; Tosca at Royal Opera in Stockholm and at Festival Puccini di Torre del Lago; Luisa Miller (concert) at Teatro San Carlo di Napoli; Cavalleria Rusticana e Pagliacci, and Turandot in Hamburg; Nabucco at Metropolitan in New York; Madama Butterfly at Festival in Lubiana with La Fenice di Venezia; La bohème e Falstaff in Nice; Ernani e Adriana Lecouvreur in Oviedo; La Gioconda at Chorégies d’Orange; Aida in Hamburg; Pagliacci in Tel Aviv; Rigoletto at Gran Teatre del Liceu; Tosca in Moscow and Tokyo; I lombardi alla prima crociata at Opéra di Montecarlo.
